A new Road Trips 1/4 discrepancy |
Okay, they've got both web pages showing the same set lists, culled mostly from 10/21/78 and 10/22/78:
http://www.deadnetstore.com/Commerce/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductGuid=0f1387b7-0d2b-41e2-9f49-fa6442e80f9cBut I don't see how they could possibly fit all of the listed disc 2 on one CD. If they included all of the traditionally-tracked Ollin Arrageed and Not Fade Away, it would come to over 100 minutes! See here:
http://db.etree.org/shninfo_detail.php?shnid=92567NFA starting with the riff coming out of the drums is 21 minutes, with some good jamming before the first vocals at about 7 minutes in. In their blurb, they refer to an extended take on Ollin Arageed, so I don't see how they can be cutting that down to a nib. Even if they fade in with the first guitar notes, they still have 15 minutes, which would make them more than 10 minutes over for the disc.
On the other hand, the bonus disc appears to be less than 60 minutes, which is unusual for the RT series, unless they're including some of the drums and/or space after He's Gone or before If I Had. I wonder if some of what's listed as disc 2 is actually on the bonus disc. All of that makes it looks like they're rushing the announcement out half-cocked.

Looks like they're going to edit the jams....probably Ollin Arageed will be shortened, maybe NFA too....if this tracklist is right. We'll see....

That would suck. I listened to that show yesterday and enjoyed both of those jams.

Re: A new Road Trips 1/4 discrepancy |
Hey Lou--keep up the good work. As you know, I don't spend any time in this era, but Oct 78 at Winterland was one of my favorite runs in terms of shows I saw and the folks I saw them with. I can defn say that they were enjoyable--it was close to the end for Winterland.
For a complete moron, can you explain the Egypt reference/connection? Or am I a really an idiot for even asking? Is it just because they had been there a month or two before?

I think that after they came back from Egypt Hamza El Din played a couple or a few shows with them here. Apparently he only had one song.

WT,
These shows were titled "From Egypt with Love" since they were the first shows played after the band returned from Egypt.

Re: A new Road Trips 1/4 discrepancy |
You are right--I was AT the shows...maybe they had "Egypt memorabilia" there? Did I just miss it? I asked my sister that went with us and she couldn't recall a thing to that effect...
Now Bob doing Steve Martin on stage would have left an impression and I would have made the connection...

Re: A new Road Trips 1/4 discrepancy |
I guess you had to be there for egypt, I don't get it...
they play all the great stuff for new years, make all the arrangements to get to egypt and play mundane setlists and performance with a damn eclipse...don't get it...
I like the story of Bill Walton walking around trying to get a patch for his tapedeck...the guy's knee's were probably on fire at that time...
it's funny jerry did want to play at stonehenge...
from spinal tap...
"I'd like to propose a practical question at this point:
are we going to play stonehenge?"
